Pojoba (UK) is the brain box of nostalgic old Pope John Secondary School students who found themselves sitting in a bar on a cold winter night in North London one Saturday night. They played catch up and found out how they were coping in London. Some were doing well and others were struggling. Having left Pope John Secondary School many years ago they also tried to find out from each other how the school was faring. They shared jokes and had a good laugh that night but before they left, they decided to meet again and to invite more friends to join them.
During their next meeting more friends joined them and as they interacted with each other they realised the need to meet regularly to help those who needed help and to also find ways to contribute generously to their Alma Mater.Led by Emmanuel Asare-Bekoe the founding members of Pojoba (UK) started their monthly meetings at pubs and also at members’ homes. During their meetings they even invited more friends and started recording minutes and drafting welfare proposals to see how members can benefit from the association. To convince members how serious they are, they went one step further and raised the status of Pojoba(UK) as a registered charity in the UK. Although the process involved a lot of challenges the ever so determined membership assailed the storm and set sail the old Pope John students association in the UK as a recognised charity.
The backbone of this association is its comprehensive and generous welfare package designed to help members in times of need and also to contribute generously to their Alma Mater to the best of their ability. Pojoba (UK) is opened to all old students of Pope John Secondary School and Junior Seminary (or currently Pope John Senior Secondary School and Junior Seminary).
